Peter Mueller, who suffered a concussion in the final regular season meeting between the Avs and the Sharks, will miss the first 2 games of their first round Stanley Cup playoff series.
The top-seeded Sharks play incredibly well in San Jose, and the Colorado Avalanche will need to find a way to win a close game at the Shark Tank to steal the series. For all the Sharks’ regular season success in San Jose, playoff demons lurk there as well…
It wasn’t all that long ago that John-Michael Liles was being held out as trade bait. As the Avs head into the playoffs all eyes will be on Liles and his newfound defensive tenacity.
Unfortunately, the big win against the West’s best team was marred by a dirty blind-side hit on Mueller by ex-Av Rob Blake. You may remember Blake as the shifty creep who screwed the Avalanche into paying him while he played for the LA Kings. Now, he will also be remembered as the slow old defender who couldn’t keep up with Mueller and the rest of the speedy Avalanche forwards… so he took the coward’s way out again.
The Avalanche gave Anaheim 3 extra PP’s and the Ducks put in 3 PP goals that turned out to be the difference in the game.
Wojtek may yet win some games for the Coyotes. He’s an exceptional talent for sure. In the meantime, Peter Mueller will be developing along with the rest of the young Avalanche forwards.
Wojtek Wolski tried not to sound like he enjoyed it after the game, but you know he relished the opportunity to down the Avalanche a day after Colorado traded the talented Left Wing to Phoenix.
It doesn’t matter who plays better longer, it matters who makes it count. The Ducks were in control for most of the game, but they couldn’t get the puck in the net. The Avalanche played a slow game by their standards, but when they had momentum they made the Ducks pay.
