Rockies make a trade as they slip ever further from the glory of 2007 into the mediocrity of their past, and management would do well to continue to make moves to avoid such an ungraceful fall.
Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo took the first pitch of the 10th Inning deep into the left field bleachers for a huge walk-off 4-3 win on Wednesday afternoon. Olivo was 5 for 5 in the game, and turned a hanging curve ball into a no-doubter for the win.
This is the fourth time in three years that the Phillies have been charged with sign-stealing. In 2007 the Mets accused the Phillies of setting up a center-field camera to steal signs. The Boston Red Sox made the same complaint in 2008. The Mets leveled another complaint against the Phillies after a May 2nd game this year. (Philadelphia was not caught stealing signs in 2009. A major victory for the team and the city.)
Catcher Miguel Olivo has thrown out would-be base-stealers at a reasonable rate, and is the one defensive jewel for the Rockies so far in the young season. In order to achieve the lofty aspirations expected by this team and their fans, the Rox will need to follow Olivo’s example and sharpen their game with the glove.
Nearing the end of April, the Colorado Rockies are 20 games into the season. Yet, after 180 innings of baseball, the team and its direction remain an enigma and the Rox find themselves searching for answers.
Control was an issue all the way through the 6th inning, but from the 7th on he had firm control of the game. Ubaldo finishes with 7 SO and 6 BB. A no-no with 6 BB is impressive. Even more impressive was the fact that this wasn’t the San Diego Padres. This was the Atlanta Braves. By the end of the season Atlanta team will be a top-ten hitting team. U-Ball crushed a good team today.
Yorvit Torrealba is staying the NL West, agreeing to a $1.25M deal, according to the AP.
I can smell spring in the air. My Helton jersey that I just bought on eBay is on it’s way and I’m ready.
