Rockies lose 23-run rubber game to Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks won the first game in this series 5-3, a contest in which the Rockies squandered plenty of offensive opportunities. The series balancing on today’s afternoon slugfest, Arizona opened up with a 6-run salvo in the 1st Inning to chase troubled Colorado starter Greg Smith. The Rockies responded with 1 run in the 2nd, 6 in the 3rd, and 4 in the 4th before the offense dried up.

The Rockies led 4-0 before Milwaukee fought back with tallies in the 5th & 7th. Both teams scored in the 9th Inning to make it a 5-3 final in favor of Colorado.

Close Call, Near Miss Define Wild Card Chase

After a forgettable outing by usually Rocktastic starter Jorge de la Rosa (2 1/3 IP, 6 ER), the forgotten Matt Belisle came in and pitched four very solid innings. That was all the Rockies batters needed, scoring in every inning except the 5th. San Diego would press on, nearly forcing a bottom of the ninth with a four-run outburst in the top of the inning.
