All right it might be time to panic.

Not about the record, I had a bad feeling about this series.  The cubs have been winning lately, they were playing at home, and they have the perfect type of team to beat us: Right handed speed.  No… I’m concerned about the closer.  Two blown games in a row via 4 soft singles in each is unacceptable.  (more…)

And that’s a pretty big let down.

Posted at 6:17 pm on June 25, 2007 by Daniel Olson

Much bigger let down than I thought it would be.  But before you get into the “What the hell happened?” talk, please, allow me in my infinite wisdom to explain the causes of this catastrophe. (more…)

May I Have Your Attention Please?

Posted at 11:18 am on June 22, 2007 by Daniel Olson

The typical scenario for a low payroll team to make the playoffs is to keep a decent record going until the trade deadline and then rattle off 20 wins in 30 games (Basically you need to fly under the radar).  After the Rockies clean the clocks of the “Best Team in Baseball” and then sweep “America’s Team”, that plan’s shot. Activity in Absence

Posted at 4:01 pm on June 19, 2007 by Jason Ackerman

So let me start by saying it’s only because the last few days got a little hairy that I haven’t given this site the attention that I meant to. Hopefully this won’t be a continuing problem.

In the meantime, however, my few but valued readers, I sincerely hope you’ll take the time to read the “State of the Rockies” and “The Avalanche and the Myth of the New NHL”. These are long articles to digest, but it’s because they are well thought out. Grab a cup of coffee (mug of beer?) and get reading. ProSportsColorado.com is only going to get better as our writers hit a stride.

Coming soon, we’ll be adding a new writer who really digs the Nuggets. Since NBA is probably the sport that least attracts my interest, it will be nice to have a b-ball fan on the team. Whether you dig the Nugs or not, you can’t deny the team dynamics and personalities at least make this team entertaining.

Finally, I just want to let you know that I plan to attend the final Crush home game next Monday night. I only have limited exposure to Arena Football, and I’ve never attended a game, so it will be a new experience for this hardened NFL fan. I’ll be sure to write a review of the experience. Thanks for reading, and a public thanks to Dan and Ian for writing some solid pieces over the past week.

Fan fact to know and tell:

The amazing brother of the amazing Daniel Olson remarked to me that Boston the “Best Team in Baseball” scored a mere 5 runs at home against the Rockies.  Way to go Sox!

It’s a Sports Town…

Posted at 11:34 am on June 13, 2007 by Jason Ackerman

I knew that Denver was a sports town… As we began to search for writers, I was reminded of how passionate sports fans here can be. It’s honestly one of my favorite things about this town.

That being said, I’d like to introduce our newest contributor here at PSC… his name is Daniel Olson, and he comes with a passion for all sports. Since we’re in the thick of the baseball season, I’ve asked him to let us have it on issues related to the Rockies, and boy are there issues related to the Rockies.

So I’ll let him introduce himself formally, but on behalf of me and our small but ready to grow reader base, welcome to the team!

Denver Nuggets - Head Writer wanted!

Posted at 12:57 pm on June 9, 2007 by Jason Ackerman

ProSportsColorado.com is looking for some writers. The Denver Nuggets writer will be the main source of information for all the basketball news on this site. You won’t be the only writer, just the go-to guy in terms of b-ballstuff.

You need to have a passion for basketball, as well as the ability to write clear, concise, and engaging material. It doesn’t have to be AP-journalistic stuff, keep it real, but it has to be entertaining. Can you make people want to come back for more?

We’re looking for individuals able to post at least every other week in the off-season, and as often as possible during the season. This is a volunteer gig for now. All writers (myself included) are donating their time out of their passion for Colorado sports. If the site ever turns revenue, revenue-sharing for the writers will be discussed at that time.

Leave a comment here if you are interested. Be prepared to show me a sample of your writing.

This site design is nowhere near permanent. Please hang with me as I work with the templates for a bit. I’ll settle on something soon.

Welcome to ProSportsColorado.com!

Posted at 12:02 pm on by Jason Ackerman

Hopefully this humble beginning is just that– a beginning.

This is a place where I thought it would be great fun to just start writing and discussing the teams we love here in Colorado. Just because we love them doesn’t mean there aren’t times where they frustrate us to no end, or make us want to scream unedited obscenities… but when it comes down to it, we’re fans. Denver started as a sports town and grew into a sports region, each team with its own rabid fan base.

So let’s talk! For now, I’m the only writer. In the next several days, I’ll outline the site direction… who we want to be, and the policies to that end. And in that time, I hope to add some other voices to the mix… I’m not the only voice here, I just want to have a little fun with it. Also, please note that I’m not trying to take over any of the other blogs. I read and follow many of the other Broncos fan blogs, Rockies blogs, etc., and I greatly respect and admire all of them for what they do. So don’t stop reading them or make this a competition… there’s plenty of room for a new voice in the crowd, and that’s all we are.

Also please note that this is not simply a place to parrot what any of us can read in the Denver Post, or the team sites. We’ll link to news stories inasmuch as they are timely, but the point is to foster discussion, not to simply be another news aggregator.

The final thing to be aware of is that while I’m all about openness and free speech, I’m a big fat jerk when it comes to abusive people. Good natured barbs and poking a little fun is ok, especially between fans of opposing teams, but when it gets personal, or profane, I won’t hesitate to break in and delete comments and ban users. And I probably won’t be incredibly fair about it… but I simply won’t tolerate disrespect. If that means only 3 people read here, then that’s fine with me. I’d rather have 3 adults who respect each other than 10,000 adolescent internet jerks who can’t control themselves.

Whew. Sorry, didn’t mean to get all high and mighty there.

Anyhow… like I said at the top, welcome! I hope you find that this is an enjoyable place to stop in your daily web-browsing. If you’re interested in contributing to this site, drop a comment here and let’s talk!
