My name is Ian Cerveny. I like quiet walks up the sides of mountains and moonlit dining in dark alleys. My turn ons are big men knocking over bigger men and then laughing derisively at them, the sheen on a nice new sheet of ice, and the smell of what I know to be really tasty whiskey (bourbon or scotch preferably, but it's all good.) My turn offs are people with nervous laughs that can't look me in the eye, this damned summer heat, and the creeping increase in the powers of federal governance.

    • Dear Philadelphia Phillies (A Rockies Eulogy) - 03 Sep 2010 (15 hours ago) in Rockies

      Dear Philadelphia Phillies,

      I’m glad it was you.

Just like last year, charging in to dash our hopes with your veteran band of overpaid sluggers. Seasoned pros. National League dominators. Death in Red.

    • ESPN guesswork on Carmelo sad but likely true - 17 Aug 2010 in Nuggets

While it is no foregone conclusion, the sign-and-trade seems like the only way for the Nuggets to approach break-even on this deal. If Carmelo plays the entire 2010-2011 season in Denver without a new contract, I would be utterly shocked. Nobody in this town wants to see Carmelo Anthony on prime time television announcing that he’s leaving while the Nuggets get approximately squat in return.

    • Carmelo commits to 2012 Olympics, Chauncey grooms The Kids - 13 Aug 2010 in National&Nuggets&Olympics

On a night that veteran Chauncey Billups worked to whip his young USA Men’s Basketball squad into shape, Nuggets teammate Carmelo Anthony committed himself to the US Team for the 2012 Olympics in London.

    • Nuggets 2010-2011 schedule release sets NW division stage - 11 Aug 2010 in Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets will open next season at home versus the Jazz and finish in Utah against that same division nemesis. With the release of the Nuggets’ 2010-2011 schedule on Tuesday, we see a clear focus on Northwest Division games when it counts.

    • Nuggets dump Warkentien after free agency failures - 03 Aug 2010 in Nuggets

Mark Warkentien is on his way out of Denver after the Nuggets announced they are not interested in renewing the contract of their VP of Basketball Operations. With him will go Rex Chapman, the Nuggets’ VP of Player Personnel, whose contract has also expired.

    • The slow decline and inevitable resurrection of the Colorado Rockies - 29 Jul 2010 in Rockies

The Colorado Rockies are a team of players whose most defining attribute is their inherently natural approach to the game. Brad Hawpe, Carlos Gonzalez, Ubaldo Jimenez and Troy Tulowitzki, the Rockies’ youth core, are very simply a band of gifted naturals.

    • Nuggets settle for Harrington as free agent options fizzle - 14 Jul 2010 in Nuggets

The Nuggets were scary good when they were all healthy in the first half of ’09-’10. Kenyon’s potency at 100%, combined with Harrington’s added length (6’9”) off the bench and the inspiring return of coach George Karl could be enough to keep Denver afloat in the stacked West.

    • Rockies rally past Cardinals with thunderous 9th - 07 Jul 2010 in Rockies

Seth powered a 2-2 split-finger fastball over the right field scoreboard for a 3-run game-winner. Smith’s shot completed the biggest 9th Inning comeback in Rockies history and the largest come-from-behind 9th in Major League Baseball since 1918.

    • Does Denver have a play in the July NBA Free Agent Sweepstakes? - 30 Jun 2010 in Nuggets

With a suddenly glaring weakness at power forward, the Denver Nuggets need to make a move to compete in the loaded Western Conference next season.

    • West competition gets bigger while Nuggets stand pat - 28 Jun 2010 in Nuggets

Unless the Nuggets’ front office can wheel and deal for the likes of Chris Bosh (Denver was not on his list of preferred cities to play in), then we will have to hope that Kenyon’s knees hold, that Birdman can be energy off the bench instead of a late season burnout, and that Denver never, ever has to rely on Johan Petro to start a game ever again.
