Avalanche role players step up with Landeskog out

In Calgary on Thursday night we saw a deep Avalanche club start to attack across all four lines. John Mitchell and Paul Stastny each scored twice during a six-goal outing. The outburst at the Flames doubled Colorado’s production from their first four road games this season.

Enter Gabriel Landeskog, the youngest team captain in NHL history. Landy nabbed that noble distinction when he was named the new Avalanche captain way back in September at just 19 years, 286 days old. He beat Sydney Crosby by 11 days – a note that tells us the Avalanche front office may have been looking to grab headlines with the move.

Wilson Chandler’s return has Nuggets rolling

It was surprising to see the Nuggets win from distance versus the Trailblazers, and even more surprising that the erstwhile Wilson Chandler keyed the victory. Denver hit 36% from beyond the arc on Tuesday night after going an NBA-record 0-22 the last time these teams met. The 115-111 OT win made it six straight for the Nuggets as they plow through a hard-earned homestand.
