The Mets come to Coors Field once a year – and it always seems to carry some hype when the Mets come to town. It’s not that the Mets carry the premium status of the Yankees or Red Sox, but I suppose coming from the major market of New York automatically grants them “hype-worthy” status. This year, the visit is early, and now is as good of a time as any for the Rockies to make the statement they were unable to make against Milwaukee in the season opening series.

Game 1 – Tuesday, 6:40pm – Smith (0-1) vs Maine (0 -0)
I won’t claim to have watched the Mets yet this year, so I’m only looking at a stat line. But Maine gave up 8 hits in 5 innings pitched and 4 earned runs against Florida in his first start, so he’ll be looking to bounce back. Smith had a bit of a rough outing in his first appearance in the Francis slot of the rotation. But I don’t think pitching will be quite as key to this matchup, as the Rockies bullpen is hopefully rested again. Look for the offense to make another statement. That said, this is probably the game the Rockies are most vulnerable in.

Game 2 – Wednesday, 6:40pm – Cook (0-1) vs Niese (0-1)
Again, nothing much to analyze since I haven’t been able to see New York play, but I know Cook is going to have to get the sinker going quickly. I like the Rocks in this game as well, due to the home advantage.

Game 3 – Thursday, 1:10pm – De la Rosa (1-0) vs Pelfrey (1-0)
De la Rosa was positively stunning in his performance at the home opener, allowing just 1 hit in 7 innings. I think Jorge is our true #2 starter, pitching in the #4 slot. Heck, he might be the effective #1. At the very least, look for Jorge to reprise his performance in a powerful way. I think the Rocks are starting to settle in, and will win more series than they lose.

Series Prediction: Rockies, 2-1
