No timetable set for Nuggets rookie sensation's return
Nuggets rookie guard Ty Lawson is still nursing a sore shoulder that has now kept him out of 8 straight games.
“It’s all right,” Lawson told the Denver Post. “I can shoot with my right hand, but when I bring it up with my left, it still catches. I’m dribbling, moving it. I’m making progress.”
Lawson has been much more of an impact player this season than anyone predicted, average 9 points per game, and providing a youthful speed and spark off the bench that has surprised everyone. One of the most exciting moments came when he threw down a powerful dunk over the much larger and understandably shocked DJ Mbenga in an overwhelming victory against the Lakers earlier this season. His presence during Chauncey Billups’ absence was much more valuable than one would expect from a rookie. It is these qualities that shed light on why the Nuggets made the move to trade for Lawson (originally picked by Minnesota) on draft day when it became apparent that he was available.
Anthony Carter has filled the gaps admirably during Lawson’s down time.
