LaDanian Tomlinson or Brian Westbrook: Good fits in Denver?

    Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Not that Denver needs a whole new set of old retread backs, but these are some big names

There are two formerly elite running backs that may still have some gas left in the tank that hit the market today, and each one should have a motivation to want to play in Denver. The question is, should Denver pursue either of them?

LaDanian Tomlinson, also known as “Bronco Kryptonite”, has got to love the idea of donning the orange and blue and running roughshod over the team he made his name with, a team he most certainly shredded in practice on a regular basis. The Chargers finally made the final move to kick LT to the curb. He’s certainly a shadow of his former self, but given the Broncos propensity for going through running backs at an alarming rate, perhaps he’s got enough to put up some yards in the division he knows the best.

The other is a certain Brian Westbrook. Westbrook’s former backfield mate Correll Buckhalter is here, as is the star of the Philadelphia defense in days past, Brian Dawkins. Either one would be a great fit in the Denver backfield, but do either of them have what it takes to start anymore? Should Denver make a run at them? I have my opinion, but what’s yours? Speak up Bronco Country!

    1. Ian Cerveny says:

I think either back would be a great addition to the Broncos, but I doubt they’re worth the cost.

Neither Westbrook nor Tomlinson is going to be a full-time starter ever again, but both could join a platoon system and still grab a handful of touchdowns and see consistent success for a few years.

Tomlinson is probably the better bet of the two, as his injuries have been less severe in recent seasons. I thought he looked really good behind a bad run-blocking O-line in the latter half of last season.
