USA Women’s Curling steals win from Great Britain

It's been rough so far, but 2 wins in a row have USA curling back in the thick of things.

After a rough start, the American women have caught a bit of a break, knocking off the British in extra ends tonight, 6-5. While this particular curling fan is relatively new to the sport, what I saw was a match that was as thrilling as curling can be.

American skip Debbie McCormick has struggled to make the timely shots during the tournament so far, and missed some easy draws in the third end that threatened to hand the win to the British, led by 19-year old Scottish curling wunderkind Eve Muirhead. But in the end it was Muirhead that couldn’t come through, and the US was able to take the draw to bonus time, and walk away with the win.

The win comes on the heels of a sorely needed victory against Russia, ending a losing streak that was making the US curling faithful lose heart, especially couple with the struggles of the men’s team as well.

Up next for the women is a tall challenge, a 9am (PST) tilt with the host nation of Canada, which also happens to be one of the few hotbeds in the world for curling.
