Colorado Avalanche vs Phoenix Coyotes (2-12-10 7pm) Preview
Fri, Feb 12th vs Phoenix Coyotes (7:00 MST)
PREDICTION: AVALANCHE 3, COYOTES 2 (OT)
FINAL SCORE: AVALANCHE 2, COYOTES 1
What’s red and blue and shares a time slot with the Opening Ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics? The 2010 Colorado Avalanche! Both the Olympics & the Avalanche take the ice tonight at 7pm.
With just two games left before three Colorado players ship off to Vancouver for the rampant badassery that is Olympic Hockey, dese Avs are tied for the Northwest Division lead with dem ‘Nucks. With two wins, the Avalanche are guaranteed at least a half-game lead over Vancouver in the standings, as the Canucks only play one more game (tonight at Blue Jackets) before the break.
Colorado has a tough draw this evening versus the Phoenix Coyotes. The two teams have played just once so far this season, a 4-1 home victory for the Avs. But the real season series really begins tonight, as the Coyotes & Avalanche will play thrice in six weeks.
With the next two games at Phoenix, the Avalanche need this one badly to have a chance at holding the playoff tiebreaker over the Coyotes. In the ultra-tight Western Conference, it is likely that season series tiebreakers will decide playoff seeding in April. The Avs already dropped their season series versus the Predators last week. Going two games up on the Coyotes would be a nice consolation prize.
The Avalanche typically play well against the also-speedy Coyotes. I expect a back-and-forth affair with the better goaltender deciding the game. Come on Craigy, we need you now!
