The Avalanche were inactive on Saturday, but plenty happened in the Western Conference playoff field.
The Avs stayed pat at 3rd in the West with 64 points, but Chicago, Phoenix & Detroit lost. The Red Wings dropped to 9th and an inactive Calgary floated lifelessly back into the playoff tier at 8th. Vancouver routed the Blackhawks to tie the Avalanche at 64 points.
Colorado is the only team in that top nine that has played only 50 games, though. Making good on their game-in-hand today versus Dallas is that much more important.
The Avalanche were dominant in their only meeting with Modano’s boys this season, putting a 4-1 hurt on the Stars’ struggling defense. When one of the two Dallas starting goaltenders, Alex Auld or Marty Turco, have a good game, the Stars are competitive. But both ‘tenders are more consistent with their off-nights, and the Avalanche offense has been rolling.
