Nuggets Season Opener – All the Slight Moves

Nuggets open their season with a statement victory.

With the season opener in the books, few assumptions can be made at this point. What can be said of the 2009-10 Denver Nuggets from game one is that they have a spark left over from the previous season, and that spark is very close to becoming a wildfire with the few subtle additions in the offseason. The familiar starting lineup of Melo, Billups, Carter, Martin & Nene seems enough to challenge opponents in the paint, however, the young apprentice in Lawson, the unending wing-span of the “Bird Man” & the added experience of Graham & Allen may be the strongest bench, with 23 points in the opener,  in the West. Not to mention the upcoming return of J.R. Smith, the Nuggets have not skipped a beat from last season.

With a long season ahead, the season opener seemed as important as the Rockies opener in Spring, but someone forgot to tell the Nuggets & Utah to pace themselves. Fans, this game has set a tone; an expectation for our team. The physicality, speed & enthusiasm was enought to melt the 2 feet of snow on the Pepsi Center roof. And what better way to educate the young talent in Lawson than to provide him vital minutes in a dog fight with Utah’s Darren Williams. The rookie managed to outrun his opponents with 17 of the benches 23 points. Coach Karl & the Denver Nuggets certantly made an impression against the rival Jazz in the season opener with a 114-105 victory.
