Nuggets 2009-10: Digging For Gold

Nuggets prepare to prove last season's success was for real.

The preseason is about over, and with one game left in the NBA preseason, the Denver Nuggets are in search and destroy mode as they set their eyes on one thing and one thing only this season: winning an NBA title. As most Denver fans are aware, the Nuggets are more than capable at making a strong run to the playoffs this season. However, no impressive moves have been made to ensure a stronger team than years past. At a glance around the league, a few problems or speedbumps are falling in place for Chauncey and the boys. Not only have the rival Lakers improved in strength, the blundering Blazers and slipping Spurs seem refreshed and ready for war this season. While Denver still has its main core intact, they seem to have overlooked a lack of fire power and brute strength to hold off the rest of the conference. Not to be the “Buzz Killington”, but if Denver is prospecting for the playoffs this year, they better sharpen their picks and defend the home fort, for the West will not be won without a fight and a little luck.

EDITOR’S NOTE:
We here at ProSportsColorado.com are happy to welcome Michael to our writing team. Michael has agreed to help us out with some Nuggets coverage this season, so keep checking back as the season progresses and read what Michael has to say. Here’s a bit about Michael from his Author Bio: I’m your typical Coloradan, I enjoy long walks in the woods in solitude, great local microbrews, making fun of Boulderites & encouraging out-of-towners to try Rocky Mountain Oysters. But what I really enjoy about Colorado are the great sports teams that bring us all together (or tear us all apart).

Welcome Michael. I agree that it’s going to be a tough slog through the higher ranks of the Western Conference. Even OK City looks tough this year… not playoff tough, but tough enough to give us some regular season fits.

I’m not so sure that Artest is an improvement over Trevor Ariza in LA. Ariza was the wild-card difference maker in the West Finals last season, and Artest is still just a defensive specialist with streaky three point shooting. Plus he retains the right to blow up at any time and end up suspended.
