Craig Anderson lands in Denver as #1 Avs goalie
The Colorado Avalanche have signed 27-year-old goaltender Craig Anderson, and he is expected to start for the team in the ‘09-’10 season.
Anderson enjoyed the best two seasons of his six-year career playing with the Florida Panthers. He started five, seventeen, and thirty one games in his three seasons with the team since coming to Florida from the Chicago Blackhawks organization. Craig had the third best save percentage (0.924) in the NHL last season splitting starts with the aging Thomas Vokoun.
Craig Anderson will start in front of the 26-year-old Peter Budaj, who split time with Andrew Raycroft through the ‘08-’09 Avalanche season. Both Anderson and Budaj are talented goaltenders that have struggled to carve a consistent starting role for themselves in the NHL. However, with the signing of a two-year $3.65 million contract signed on Wednesday by Anderson, it looks like Craig is much closer than Peter to cementing a permanent #1 slot in Colorado.
